You Can Surf Medallo Too

The hills of Medallo twist, rise again, get steep, and circle back. Sometimes, they even become our staircases.

Staircases like the ones in Comuna 13, that take you up into a world where history, folklore, and culture become real through the artists and their art.

Art like the kind that surrounds downtown Medellín, walking from Parque de las Luces down Carabobo to Plaza Botero, where it doesn’t take much to enjoy those rounded sculptures.

Rounded like the smiles of the paisas who, if you get lost on the way, show you where the Museo de Antioquia is and even point out where to catch the Metro.

The Metro to Poblado Station, then a little walk through the park and its surroundings, heading up La Presidenta to Vía Primavera, maybe even getting tempted by something from Fou. Then stepping out and breathing fresh air.

Fresh like hanging out by the river, lying on the grass looking for clouds in a bright blue sky. You can walk the whole way along the river, and careful—you might bump into a philharmonic orchestra right next to the Metropolitan Theatre.

Tired of walking? You can rent or borrow a bike, and from the river ride up to Laureles. But once there, park the bike so you can take in all those neighborhoods on foot.

On foot is how we have to climb the Loma de las Tres Cruces, keeping pace with the workout and rewarded with a fresh orange juice waiting up top.

Higher than the clouds and some of the houses in El Poblado and Las Palmas, the city right in front of you like a goal, or a dream.

Throw on this new FOU t-shirt and head back down. Surf Medellín—you’re bound to take some beautiful things with you.
